FuzziBunz Diapers

FuzziBunz make a great diaper. They have changed and perfected their diapers and have a lot to be proud of. Don't you just love the fact that most reusable diapers are created by loving and caring moms? I love that.

Tereson Dupuy, 40, is the founder and CEO of Mother of Eden and the patent holder of FuzziBunz® pocket diapers. This young mother-of-three invented FuzziBunz® pocket diapers in January 1999 in response to her four-month old son, Eden's, chronic diaper rash.

FuzziBunz makes two typed of diapers that I will explain to you now. The first and original FuzziBunz diaper was their Perfect Fit Pocket Diaper, still loved by many moms and dads.

It is a Perfect Fit (meaning fitted) diaper. This means that you must buy different sizes as your child grows. {small, medium, large}. However, FuzziBunz says that most children only need to use the small and medium diapers before they are potty trained.

What is the advantage to a Perfect Fit (fitted) diaper?

  • If you are worried about bulkiness, then a fitted diaper is better for you. They end up being more slim fitting than a one size.
  • Also, since you are not using the each diaper for the entire diapering years of your child, they obtain less wear and tear, therefore lasting longer than a one size diaper.
What is the disadvantage?
  • The initial cost is greater since you need to buy 18 diapers in each size rather than just 18 one size diapers.
My advice is if you are able, don't let the money factor sway you. You will still be saving yourself a ton of money and you will be happier in the end if you choose the diaper you are drawn too. ( I know this from experience).

Take a look at the Perfect Fit diagram below!

Next.

FuzziBunz One Size Diaper. Same great quality as the Perfect Fit Diaper but One size (meaning it will fit your child from about 8-35 pounds). This One Size Diaper is unique from other One Size Diapers in that it doesn't use a snap down system to change the size of the diaper. Instead they use an elastic system. The elastic is found in the legs and waist of the diaper and can be changed using a button and button holes to make the diaper smaller or larger, depending what you need. This helps eliminate bulkiness to a one size diaper and helps to adjust for the differences in the shape of different babies (example: One baby has larger thighs than another).

So, the initial cost for doing one size is LESS, but they most likely will not last through as many children as the fitted and will prove to be a little more bulky.

Look below for the diagram of the One Size Diaper:
Both come in a LOT of GREAT colors!
They look REALLY cute on your baby!
They are so fuzzi and soft!
All diapers come in snaps, no velcro closures.

Prices are important I know. Luckily FuzziBunz does do package deals.

One Size Diaper $18.95
One Size 3 pack $56.85
One Size 6 pack $110.70
One Size 12 pack $215.40
Perfect Fit Diaper $17.95

Bummis Diaper Covers & Kits.

First off: The most economical way to cloth diaper a baby is by using diaper covers and prefolds. So if you are primarily looking to save money by going with reusable diapers, this is the way to go.

Bummis offers two great kits that come with everything you need.

The Infant size kit contains:

• 24 infant size Organic cotton prefold diapers (4 x 8 x 4 layers thick)

• 4 Super Whisper Wraps – small

2 Super Brites - small

• 3 rolls BioSoft Liners– small

• 5 reusable fleece liners

• Fabulous Wet Bag & a User Guide

The Baby size contains:

• 18 baby size Organic Cotton Prefold Diapers (4 x 8 x 4 layers thick)

• 2 Super Whisper Wraps– medium

• 2 Super Brites – medium

• 1 roll Bio Soft Liners– large

• 5 reusable Fleece Liners

• Fabulous Wet Bag & a User Guide

By purchasing both these kits you will have EVERYTHING you need to cloth diaper you baby for up to 3 years.

Bummis diaper covers.

I sell two types of Bummis diaper covers.

THE SUPER BRITE: (pictured below)
  • Very adjustable. Hook and loop closures with an innovative overlap design that ensures a custom fit on any baby.

  • Super-sized fold-back wash tabs to protect your laundry from rogue velcro attacks.

  • A special newborn size with an umbilical cord cut-out that fits teeny tiny babies from 4 lbs!

  • A specialized binding system combining soft, smooth polyester knit bindings with our signature lycra gussets for a comfortable, stretchy fit, and leakproof seal.

  • Super lightweight and trim – not bulky at all!

This diaper comes in green, yellow, blue, and pink. All super brite and with the cute circle design pattern. They are super light weight -no bulk. They work well with a prefold or a fitted diaper of your choice (any brand). They are NOT one size, meaning you will need to buy different sizes of covers to fit your child as they grow. The upside to this: they will fit better than a one size diaper and last longer since you are not using them for your child's entire diapering life.

And the WHISPER WRAP: (pictured below)
  • Very adjustable. Hook and loop closures with an innovative overlap design that ensures a custom fit on any baby

  • Durable, heavy-duty elastic around legs and tummy which will not wear out with repeated washing.

  • Soft, smooth polyester knit bindings for a comfortable, stretchy fit, and a leak-proof seal.

  • Super-sized fold-back wash tabs to protect your laundry from rogue attacks by hook and loop closures.

  • Generous sizing means fewer cloth diaper covers to buy, while still assuring a great fit.

This diaper comes in all the prints below. I only keep some of the prints in stock but can always special order others if you want them. This diaper cover is not quite as light weight as the Super Brite but not extra bulky. It is heavy duty and ready for anything. They work well with a prefold or a fitted diaper of your choice (any brand). They are NOT one size, meaning you will need to buy different sizes of covers to fit your child as they grow. The upside to this: they will fit better than a one size diaper and last longer since you are not using them for your child's entire diapering life.

The great thing about using diaper covers today is that they hold up very well. They will last longer than your all in one diapers and pocket diapers because they are being washed less. You can use a diaper cover 3-4 times on average before having to wash it. This means that you only need to buy about 8-10 diaper covers of each size for your child. They hold leaks very well. Even better than that: No pins or fasteners are required. The prefold (if you choose to use it instead of a fitted diaper) will stay in place just by putting the cover on. Very awesome!

As if that isn't enough good news. Bummis also makes a very cute swim diaper (pictured above). This is it, this is all you need. No plastic cover required. Just put this diaper on and throw your child's swimwear over it and you are good to go. Hello swimming pool.

Also, Bummis sells a training pant so you can stick with reusable when your little one is potting training. You won't have to stop your reusable lifestyle. Isn't this just great!

Price List:

Infant Size Diaper Kit: $169.00
Baby Size Diaper Kit: $136.00
Super Brite: $13.00
Super Whisper Wrap: $12.25
Swimmi: $12.75
Training Pant: $11-$13

Knickernappies One Size Pocket Diaper

I have decided to do a descriptive post on each product that I sell in my store. I thought this would be helpful to those of you that live outside the state of Utah and are unable to actually meet with me in person in order to discuss options on which brand of diaper is best for you, your child, and your lifestyle. And so I begin. I am going to be posting about a new brand weekly so if you check this blog weekly you should be able to read about each brand of diaper and get some details and insight on each.

Sit back, relax, & enjoy.

*If you have any questions about any of the products I am writing about, please feel free to leave a comment with your e-mail address and I will do my best to answer your question.*

KNICKERNAPPIES ONE SIZE POCKET DIAPER

This wonderful diaper is a One Size Diaper meaning it will fit your child from approximately 8lbs-40lbs.
Same thing said in another way: It will fit your child approximately from birth to potty training.
That is great news!
This means you will only need one set of diapers for your child throughout their entire potting training years. And if you treat this diaper well you should be able to use if for another child as well.
Two kids for the price of one, can't beat that.

This diaper is also a pocket diaper, meaning that the diaper has a pocket.
The reason for the pocket is to stuff an insert inside the diaper.
The insert is what absorbs, so you don't want to leave this out.

Included with this diaper:
  • One diaper (the actual green diaper pictured above
  • One small insert
  • One large insert

Knickernappies
is owned and operated by the Hicks family and based in Springfield, Oregon. Heather & Shannon both work from home managing the business while caring for their daughter Camille.

Knickernappies One Size Pocket Diaper comes with two types of inserts.

The First.
Your standard Microfiber insert.
This is the insert that is included with most brands of diapers.
It is a great insert.

The Second and my personal favorite of the two.
The LoopyDo insert.
This insert is made of both hemp and microfiber making for a very absorbent team.
It is sewn in a loop fashion which creates a super fast drying time for something containing hemp.
And best of all it is pre-washed so it can be used right away.
What I LOVE about Knickernappies One Size Pocket Diapers!
  • I love snaps
  • Their snaps are very simple
  • They are pretty slim for a one size diaper
  • They absorb wonderfully (especially the with LoopyDo inserts)
  • They wash great!
  • They are super soft
  • They come in so many fun colors

Knickernappies Pricing:

Single Knickernappies One Size Pocket Diaper with Microfiber Inserts: $19.95
  • 6 pack $116.70
  • 9 pack $175.05
  • 12 pack $227.40
Single Knickernappies One Size Pocket Diaper with LoopyDo Inserts: $24.95
  • 6 pack $146.70
  • 9 pack $220.05
  • 12 pack $287.40

I highly recommend these diapers.

My son (2nd child) is also due in May :)

We did disposables with out daughter (though I wanted to do cloth!! -husband wasn't a fan of the idea yet and refused!) but I won this time and we are getting ready to start cloth with this new baby! :)

We are also able to have a garden this year, have a place to line dry our clothes, and have also down-sized to just one vehicle as well! Nothing too special or different than anyone else's answers but I'm quite excited! *wink

Earth Day Give Away!

In celebration of upcoming Earth Day on April 22nd I thought it only appropriate that we provide you with our very first Uncommon Bottom Give Away!

That is right.
Two of you lucky readers will be the recipient of 1 FREE one size reusable diaper.

All you have to do: You need to leave a comment on this blog or on our Facebook page sharing one way you plan to help out the earth this year, you also need to include your e-mail address so I can get in touch with you if you win. If you do not leave your e-mail address you are not eligible to win. Helping out the earth can include but is not limited to; switching to reusable diapers, switching to reusable wipes, planting your own vegetable garden, running your dishwasher less, riding a bike or public transit instead of using your car, etc. It doesn't matter if it seems as large as buying an electric car or as small as switching out one household light bulb,
it all makes a difference.

How am I helping out the earth this year?
I just bought a clothes line and have started hang drying not only my diapers but also clothing. I also am in the process of switching out all my non-green cleaning products for environmentally (and child) safe cleaners.

Spring...

Here is SLC Spring is always crazy. It is warm and sunny one day, everyone is out taking walks, playing at the park, riding bikes....then....the next day there is 7 inches of snow covering the ground and we are living in a winter wonderland. People hurry up to the ski slopes, others snow shoe, snowmen appear on lawns. I love both seasons but am ready for a more traditional spring to begin, meaning rain, rather than snow.

I love this new image that bummis just released. It really got me excited and in the mood for spring so I just thought that I needed to share it with all of you. It also helps me to realize what a big contribution reusable diapers make to our planet. I think we are all greatly affected by the beauty of our planet during the spring as flowers bloom, plants turn from brown to green, and the earth comes alive with insects, birds, & beauty.

In celebration of spring and the opening of our business we are going to be announcing in the near future a couple of contests to win some great things. Make sure you are checking either our blog or facebook page regularly in order to participate and win big.

As always,

Benefits to hang drying...

Daylight savings is in effect. Buds are visible on trees. Flowers are sprouting. People are riding bikes, going on walks, are outside gardening. The weather is warmer. It smells fresh outside. Everything within you urges you to get outdoors and never go back inside.

Yes, spring is in the air.

What does that mean for all you reusable diaper parents? It means that the time has come to dust off your diapers and hang them outside to do their drying.

Not only is it a good excuse to get outside and enjoy some fresh air while still getting your never ending list of chores done, but it is also GREAT for your diapers. There is nothing like a little lemon juice and natural sun to bleach away old stains & nothing like the smell of a fresh air diaper. (Okay, so maybe there are a few things that smell better than a clean diaper, even if it has been dried by the sun. Maybe I was just getting carried away).

So, I haven't convinced you to hang/line dry yet? You realize you can just use regular old bleach in your washing machine and you don't go around smelling your child's diaper on a regular basis?

Well, then here are a few more suggestions from beingfrugal.net to get you in the mood for a good hang/line dry:

The Benefits of Line Drying:

Line Drying Uses Less Electricity

For a frugal person, this is reason enough to line dry laundry. According to the electric use cost calculator at Saving Electricity, someone who runs their electric dryer (4400 watts) 2 hours a day, 20 days a month, spends $252 a year on electricity from the dryer alone. (That assumes the U.S. national average of 12 cents per KWH).

Now the savings from not running the clothes dryer may seem paltry, but it adds up over the years. And when combined with the other benefits of line drying laundry, I think it’s worth it.

Line Drying Preserves Clothes (and in our case diapers)

Another way line drying laundry saves money is by making your clothing/diapers last longer. Have you ever noticed how much lint a dryer picks up in the lint trap? And have you thought about how rough the dryer must be on clothing/diapers to pick up that much lint?

Line drying is very gentle on clothing/diapers, so your clothes/diapers last longer. Which means you don’t have to replace your clothes/diapers as often. Which means you spend less money on your clothing/diapers.

Line Drying Gets You Outside

It’s good to take a break to get outside once in a while.

By making a commitment to line dry laundry, you know that you will have periodic breaks during the day, where your getting out in the sunshine. And hanging clothing is very relaxing. The time you use for hanging laundry can also be your time alone with your thoughts. As a busy parent, this is something to treasure.

Line Dried Clothes Smell Great

I love the smell of clothes that have been hung out to dry. It’s a smell that commercial laundry detergents and fabric softeners can’t replicate, no matter how hard they try.

Let's see...you are already saving your family money and helping the environment by using reusable diapers, why not take another green step and hang a few diapers on display to the envy of all your neighbors?

Give it a try. I guarantee you'll love it. (And if you don't, well, you won't have to worry about returning anything or getting a full refund, and I bet your dryer will be waiting for you just where you left it).

Today is the beginning.

Wow! Only a week and and a half and we will be open for business. What a process so far. What a process it will continue to be. I sometimes wonder why I started on this adventure to begin with.

It has been long, it has been hard.
There has been joy & frustration.
There have been late nights.
There has been support & encouragement from friends, family, & strangers.
There have been times I have felt as though I have neglected family.
There has been accomplishment & small successes.

These are only a handful of the things that have taken place and there will be many more feelings and events that accompany this journey in the future. I haven't cried yet. I am sure that will happen in the future. I haven't given up, even though at times I wondered if I would really ever get to this point. I have pondered. I have pondered how I will handle a business while raising a family. It is hard with one child, what will happen when I add more to the brood? Luckily I am not alone in the process of learning.

The other day I was wondering how I would manage being a working mother (even though I am working far less than those mother's who actually have to leave their homes and go to a 9-5 job) and still be able accomplish all I want to with my first and most important job of being a stay-at-home mother.

The LIFE LESSONS section of the March 2010 issue of Real Simple addressed just that. Author Michelle Slatalla a writer for the New York Times gave ten simple advices to help each and every working mother. Whether your work be an office job, a home job, full time, part time, or a volunteer position. I will share a couple.

#7 GO WITH YOUR GUT, AND DON'T SECOND GUESS IT LATER. If you've spent days preparing for a meeting that starts in an hour and the school nurse calls to report a painful, though not hospital-worthy, monkey-bar injury, there's no one right thing to do. On any given day, your instinct might be to skip the meeting. Or suggest that the nurse apply an ice pack and send Shorty back to class. Make a snap decision and then-this is the key-don't question it later. Let it go. Really. I mean it.

#10 STOP THINKING OF YOURSELF AS SPLIT INTO SEPARATE BUT EQUAL ROLES: MOTHER, WORKER, ME. Listen to Philosopher John Lock, who said that a person recognizes himself as the same being throughout his life, in different times and places. You are one person, indivisible, who just happens to wear many hats. And while I get that the weight of all those hats can bear you down, at least be happy you've got something important to do.

I have found another passion in my life. Helping families save money. Helping babies be happy. Helping preserve the beauty of the world. And though it is not my only passion it is one that I needed to share with all of you.

I am excited to get to know you. I am excited to pass along my knowledge. I am excited to help dress your babies bums in organic cotton, wool, hemp, bamboo. I am excited to make this un-common & un-understood notion of reusable cloth diapers a thing of the past.

Look out! Here we come to change the world one diaper, one bum, one tree, one garbage can, one home at a time. So make sure to check in with us every once in awhile to see what is new in the life of the uncommon bottoms.

Uncommonly,
Laina
